Paean III
Paean Studio RÖ 3 is a unique, freestanding light sculpture conceived specifically and exclusively for Studio RÖ’s 2025 Milan Design Week exhibition by Canadian artist and designer Mike Seymour. It is one of only two pieces created for this occasion, embodying the ethos of Studio RÖ and reflecting the experimental, introspective spirit of Seymour’s practice.
Part of the broader Paean series — a tribute to ceramic traditions and their communal, spiritual dimensions — this piece features three ceramic stems, each with a distinctly experimental glaze. One foams, one craters, another appears as if misted with tiny goosebump-like textures. Each surface reacts differently to light, revealing a secret topography as it moves down the form.
The supporting armature, made by spraying molten copper onto stainless steel tubing, is both raw and refined. Finished in a soft white paint, it contrasts with the unpredictability of the ceramic finishes — a deliberate tension central to Seymour’s process, which embraces intuition, accident, and collaboration with materials.
Paean Studio RÖ 3 is not only a light — it is a one-of-a-kind artistic statement born from a singular collaboration between artist and gallery, place and moment.
