“GORGONEIA URN by Scarlett Rouge
Scarlett Rouge's 2024 solo exhibition, centered around the theme of "Limbes" and purgatory, presents a captivating exploration of the soul's journey through an in-between space of transformation. This exhibition features a range of new works created specifically for the occasion, blending a unique combination of mediums and sensibilities. At the heart of the exhibition is a mystical performance—human, celestial, and ritualistic—that invites viewers to re-anchor themselves, connecting to both their inner self and something far beyond, offering a transcendental experience.
As part of the exhibition, STUDIO RÖ continues its annual collaboration with Elohim, crafting an immersive sonic experience that echoes the themes of the show. The space is infused with the scent of white sage, ceremonially prepared by an indigenous American tribe, heightening the sensory experience. Lighting by Machine Light creates a powerful, atmospheric ambiance, while the rugs, designed by Scarlett Rouge in collaboration with CC-Tapis, ground the space with rich textures. Far Collective contributes skins that form part of the installation, adding an element of tactile rawness.
An exceptional highlight of the exhibition is the stunning contribution from Muriel Nisse, whose breathtaking masks, made from real human hair, add a hauntingly beautiful and visceral dimension to the space. These masks are symbolic of identity, transformation, and the threshold between the earthly and the divine, perfectly in tune with the exhibition’s themes of liminality and spiritual transcendence.
Together, these elements form a deeply moving, multi-sensory journey, merging the physical and the metaphysical, and making this exhibition an unforgettable and transformative experience.o
